Use OWON tablet oscilloscope to measure CAN CONFORT waveform

The control units onto auto numbers a lot, the communication between these units works through CAN field-bus.

CAN field-bus gets 2 categories, CAN DRIVE and CAN CONFORT. Taking PASSAT B7 as example, the communication between its control units runs through these 2 CAN field-buses, besides CAN communication, the communication between its control units and sensor / actuator also been through LIN field-bus. 

Via previous article “Use OWON tablet oscilloscope to measure driving CAN waveform”, we bring the detailed introduction towards how to measure CAN DRIVE, and with this article, we’ll eye upon how to measure CAN CONFORT field-bus.

The following illustration shows the circuit diagram of PASSAT B7.

 

The measuring point set at the control unit of auto door from driver’s side:

The captured signal been observed onto the display of TAO3104A as follows:

The “sleep” status of CAN_L field-bus been measured/ displayed as:
Note: Better to pull out the ignition key upon the measurement done.


The analysis towards displayed waveform (captured signal) -

● When the voltage of CAN_H jumps to 3.9V from 0V, the average voltage reads 0.9V.

● When the voltage of CAN_L drops to 1.14V from 5V, the average voltage reads 4.1V.

● CAN_L possible to work by single-bus.

● When entering into “sleep” status, the voltage of CAN_H stays at 0V, and CAN_L at 11V.
